My Connect Group – Michele Chiemeka

We’re so glad to hear that so many women are interested in setting up connect groups after attending this year’s Retreat. Here is a testimony from Michele Chiemeka about the connect group she has set up for mothers with children with ‘additional needs’.
We hope you will be inspired to set up your own. Maybe you’ve already done so? Please share your testimonies with us so that you can inspire more women to get involved.

God is good!!!

During the retreat Sis Joyce introduced ‘Connect – women reaching out to women.’ She explained that it was an opportunity to meet with women from all walks of life, and share the Good News. No agenda needed to be set, just friendship and sometimes a listening ear. She explained that everyone has a story to tell and that sharing your story could help someone in a similar situation. I listened as she spoke, had a brief look at the leaflet given and thought ‘that’s a good idea!’ Not realising, that God had a plan to enable me to connect to other women, in particular mothers, who have children with ‘additional needs.’
Just before I left the retreat venue on Sunday, a lady came up to me and started talking about a situation within her family. I listened, I smiled and I nodded at the right places. When she finished talking, I explained that I understood everything that she had spoken about as I too have a son with ‘additional needs.’ She couldn’t believe it!!!! We exchanged numbers – my first connect member!!

I went to work the next day. I told a colleague about the retreat, I even explained about ‘connect’. She immediately took my number as she knew a lady I needed to ‘connect’ with!! To cut a long story short, within the first 7 days after retreat I had connected with 3 women! I spoke with them all and in the second week, we set up a ‘WhatsApp’ account, calling ourselves ‘Unique Women of God.’

Raising a child with any disorder, condition or special need, is both a blessing and a challenge. A challenge for the obvious reasons, and a blessing because you don’t know the depths of victory and joy until you see your child overcoming some of those challenges. As a connect group, the words of encouragement and prayer between us has been fantastic.

God is doing a wonderful thing, especially as yesterday; an Asian lady also joined our group!

I also have 1 lady who has ‘categorically’ told me not to go to retreat next year without her!

Ladies watch this space, as I have confidence that God will do exceeding abundantly above all that I could ever ask or think, according to his power that worketh in us, for the ladies of this group.

P.S I have also connected with 2 of my neighbours and we are due to go running Saturday morning. I am praying it rains!!!

  1. Hello families of Christ, I have also started up a connect group forcusing on young people both save and unsaved. This is our 3rd session and I have to say that god is faithful and that it has been going very well. We have been exploring lots of areas and fellowshiping in food, sharing, running club, various activities and we are now creating a netball team.

We are also connecting with young families with children and sharing the gospel.
